sign o' the times

Looks like the big boys are finally figuring out that selling crippleware isn't in their long term best interests.

Fear of filesharing drove them to embrace DRM, and the DRM drove potential customers to filesharing.

IRONY!

  1. I am not sure why anyone uses iTunes anyway.

I've been buying mp3's from Amazon.

Just remember DMCA = Don't Make Content Available.

  2. I've been using Songbird lately and liking it, except for a couple of inexplicable oversights- it doesn't burn discs and it doesn't play Apple encoded files.

I expect they'll patch those holes ASAP, but until they don I can't recommend it.

I did find a nice freeware dvd burner that does just what I want it to without all the superpowered authoring stuff I never use and that just confuses me- ImgBurn.

the front end is a little clunky, but the manual is great and it works like a charm.
